Miami, a city known for its vibrant culture and stunning architecture, is about to get a new addition to its skyline. The I-395/SR 836/I-95 Design-Build Project, also known as the Signature Bridge project, is set to redefine the city’s landscape.
A Partnership for Progress
The project is a collaboration between the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the Greater Miami Expressway Agency (GMX). It involves the reconstruction and widening of 4.5 miles of SR 836/I-395, starting at NW 17 Avenue and continuing through the SR 836/I-395/I-95 (Midtown) Interchange to the MacArthur Causeway Bridge.
The Signature Bridge
The centerpiece of the project is the construction of a Signature Bridge over Biscayne Boulevard. This bridge, named “The Fountain”, will feature six sweeping arches that will add a new dimension to the Miami skyline. Spanning 1,025 feet across two busy downtown Miami roadways, its largest arch will soar 325 feet above the ground and measure 650 feet across.
Enhancing Connectivity and Safety
In addition to the aesthetic appeal, the project also focuses on enhancing community connectivity, safety, mobility, and sustainability. A double-decked section of SR 836 will provide drivers with a direct connection to the MacArthur Causeway, free of local entry and exit traffic. This is expected to improve traffic operations on SR 836 and enhance safety.
The Future of Miami
Scheduled for completion in late 2027 at a cost of $840 million, the I-395/SR 836/I-95 Design-Build Project represents a significant investment in the future of Miami. As a real estate agent, I, Jacqueline Venerio, am excited about the potential this project holds for the city’s development and the opportunities it presents for residents and businesses alike.
